Great product but inital defects. Amazon replaced though August 24, 2010 transatlantic82 (Georgia, USA) PROS: removable battery, cuts through thick grass better than my similar black and decker (my B&D would always shut off in thick grass and required 2 minutes wait before i could start again), nice side discharge chute.
ISSUES"
1. As experienced by other reviewers, the mower height guide was bent when I received it. Had to bend it back into shape myself.
2. Rear wheel falls off - realized that there is supposed to be a groove in the rear axle for a c-clip to hold the wheel in place - this is missing in my unit.
Amazon do not accept returns for this item as they say it is a hazardous item (due to battery). I contacted them anyway and they agreed to replace the lawnmower. However now they say it is okay to send back the defective one at their expensive. At least I am happy now.
No gas headaches July 29, 2010 green chief We received the mower and had no problem with it. Very powerful and mows with ease. Love the start up procedure. Safe and easy to us. Just remember to always plug it it when you are done. It is a joy to mow with this battery operated mower.
More powerful than expected July 10, 2010 SarahLawrence Scott (New York) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My previous mower was unpowered, so I'm coming at this from a different direction than most. It's certainly heavy in a literal sense, if for some reason you have to drag it up steps or something. But it mows fairly easily. I WANT a bit of a workout from a mower, and this one gives me about the same aerobic exercise I'd get from a brisk walk. The battery itself is quite heavy, and if you're like me and keep the mower in the shed but the battery charger inside at an outlet, you'd better be of average strength just to lug it back and forth.
The power pleasantly surprised me. I'd let my grass get to about a foot high by the time it arrived, but found it easily handled that, as well as fairly thick weeds. The only thing that gave it trouble was some really thick, matted, long-dead grass--it managed that too, but only very slowly and with rapid battery drain. I've sometimes been less than careful about clearing sticks and rocks from its path, and nothing terrible has happened.
The battery took a few cycles to get fully charged, but now lets me mow either the front yard or the back yard on one charge (I've got a typical small suburban lot). The battery drains more rapidly when it's working harder, so if I mowed every week I could probably do front and back on one charge, but with every other week the taller grass makes it drain a little faster. The battery has a charge indicator, which isn't particularly accurate (it indicates it's mostly full for far too long), but is still quite helpful. The power does drop a bit when the battery is low, which is actually useful as another kind of low-battery warning.
While I've never used a gas mower, it's quite clear to me that the ability to turn an electric on and off repeatedly is a big advantage. That way it can be off when being pulled backward, when clearing obstacles in front of it, etc., with no safety issues. It's certainly quieter than a gas mower, too--about the volume of an upright vacuum cleaner.
It mows almost all the way out to the side (but not the front), so by mowing parallel to a fence I can get all but an inch or two of the fringe.
I always use it as a mulcher; with thick grass it can sometimes get a little bit gummed up with the clippings.
I've had it now for more than a month, and it's wearing fine. One place where I can foresee trouble is the safety switch/power-on bar combination. Fairly often, the combination doesn't trip right, and it doesn't turn on when I want it to. Trying again generally works, and it only costs me about ten seconds, but I do wonder if that problem will get worse over time.
Overall, an excellent light-duty mower. I wouldn't use it if I had to do half an acre, but for a smallish lawn the combination of power and maneuverability make it a winner.
powerful and sturdy July 8, 2010 Quilted Kat (Dayton, OH) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have used several electric mowers, and this is the most powerful and durable one I have yet used. The main body is made of metal. The cut-off switch is also metal, and much more durable than the other electric mowers I have used.
It mulches well, and the side blower also works well. But when using the rear bag, most of the grass remained scattered on the lawn.
It handles tall grass and weeds easily. I even ran over some thick branches, and it mulched them without any problem.
The battery lasts about 1 1/2 hours on my lawn, on a full charge. I would probably look into buying an extra battery for use on large lawns.
My only complaint about the mower is that it is HEAVY. It is much heavier than my corded electric was, and even much heavier than a typical gas-powered machine. I kind of like the resistance workout I get pushing it up-hill, but pushing 87 lbs of mower that is not self propelled will not work for everyone.
Runs well a bit on the heavy side and watch out for shipping June 14, 2010 Bernard Goedde (Everett, WA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Runs well and quiet. Operated it twice so it's still being field tested in my eyes. Issues are: it's heavy especially w/the battery so I would not recommend it for someone of petite size. Also, it was slightly damaged when I received it. I had to fix up the height adjuster since it was jammed due to being damaged. Other than that hoping to use it for the 4 years that it's warrantied for... Support independence from oil by buying one of these!
