The battery lifts out easily, and a single charge provides 45 to 60 minutes of run time. View larger. | One Hour of Power on a Single Charge The Neuton CE 5.2 Battery-Powered Mower is a welcome relief from the arm-yanking pull-starts, noxious fumes, startling noises, and uncomfortable vibrations of a gas lawn mower. It starts every time with a simple push of a button and mows for up to an hour on a single charge--ample time for most small- to medium-sized lawns. Need more time? Unlike other battery mowers with built-in batteries that require you to stop mowing to recharge, the CE 5.2 lets you drop in an optional spare battery and keep on mowing. For added convenience, you can also use the CE 5.2 as a trim mower for larger lawns.Environmentally Friendly Gas- and Oil-Free Operation The key benefits of the CE 5.2 are that it works well without compromising the environment, and that it doesn’t demand continual maintenance. Because this mower never requires gas or oil, it won’t need a tune-up. Plus, it runs clean, meaning it won’t release harmful pollutants or carbon emissions into the air. Additionally, no gas or oil means easy cleaning and safe storage without spills or fumes. Magnet Battery and 3-in-1 Cutting Options for Power and Versatility This efficient mower owes its robust performance to a 32-amp, 240-watt-hour, 24-volt permanent magnet battery that’s both removable and sealed. The battery provides an impressive 45-60-minute run time per charge, depending on grass conditions. The CE 5.2 also offers versatile three-in-one cutting options and includes a rear grass bag (which holds one full bushel of clippings), a side discharge chute, and a mulching plug. Lightweight for Easy Pushing, Adjustable Height for Greater Flexibility Easy to operate, the CE 5.2 weighs just 48 pounds, so you won’t struggle to push it across your lawn. Additionally, a single-touch height-adjustment lever raises and lowers the cutting blade from 1.2 inches to 3.0 inches, giving you great flexibility. 14-Inch Cutting Width for Better Control and Great Results Equipped with seven-inch front wheels and eight-inch rear wheels, the CE 5.2 is stable and sturdy, even when mowing around trees or shrubs or on rugged terrain. Its 14-inch cutting width lets you power through your lawn, leaving only manicured grass behind. Truly Quiet Operation for More Enjoyable Yard Work Because it runs on a battery, the CE 5.2 boasts a quiet running noise of less than 80 DbA. The low noise level makes operation more pleasant for both you and your neighbors. You might even be able to ditch those ear plugs for good! Cost-Effective Design Saves You Money The CE 5.2 saves you money year after year thanks to its low operating costs. The estimated cost to operate a gas mower (including gasoline, oil, spark plugs, filters, and tune-ups) for four years is as much as $260.00. The costs of recharging the battery over four years of mowing 28 times per year with a Neuton Mower is approximately $11.20. That's a huge savings! Ready to Go Right Out of the Box With the CE 5.2, you don’t have to wait to mow. It arrives with everything you need to get started right away, including the battery, battery charger, and rear grass-collection bag. Optional Accessories for All-in-One Yard Maintenance Neuton Mowers have attachments and accessories that give you options other mowers simply can’t. For instance, the optional Trimmer/Edger Attachment eliminates the need for a second piece of equipment and gives your yard and walkways a beautiful, clean finish. And for longer running time, you can also purchase an optional Spare Battery (model 178781). The CE 5.2 measures 18 x 30 x 37 inches (WxHxD), weighs 48 pounds, and comes with a two-year limited warranty. Not easy with arthritic hands or thumbs!!!!!!!!!! August 12, 2010 jclieber I was all excited to get my new lightweight, electric start mower because I couldn't pull the cord on my gas one anymore. I got it in 3 days! Put it together myself last night. Charged the battery overnight. Went out to try it today and discovered that the arthritis in my hands was worse than I thought because holding the "go" bar in the whole time you mow is painful! I tried different ways to hold it, but my thumbs and wrists were yelling at me the whole time. I guess I'll have to mow in 2 or 3 minute sessions cuz that's all the pain I could stand! What a bummer! Why didn't I think of it before I bought it? Hope this helps others with arthritis give it a second thought.... or maybe the company could figure out a way for us old people to lock in the bar while we mow!???
This is the best mower I have ever owned July 28, 2010 Dan (Blaine, MN) I have been using the CE5 mower for 5 years now. I've been cutting grass for over 40 years, and I've never had any gas powered mower last this long with zero problems. As you may know, many states have enacted laws increasing the ethanol content of gasoline. This damages small engines, and destroys them before their time. So now I have electric/battery everything, from snow blower, to weed trimmer, to lawn mower to leaf blower. No more gas cans in the garage, reducing fire hazard, and having to deal with gas going bad, as well as ethanol ruining a small engine. I love my Neuton lawnmower. It is wonderful!
Neuton is worth a shot July 23, 2010 Names (Harrison, NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I moved into my house over 7 years ago. I went to Home Depot and bought a Toro self propelled lawn mower. I spent $400 on ita nd each year I needed to load it into the back of my car and bring it into the shop for a tune up -wait 2 weeks to get it back and buy the gas and keep the car clean. Needless to say it was an annoyance. After two summers on=f this and damamging the rear bumper of my car I decided
I needed an alternative. I purchased a neuton 5.1 with a 4 year extended warranty. It was a good little mower and 4 months before the extended warranty expired it died. I had purchased the mower directly from neuton. I was expecting drama but there was none. They told me that they would pick up the existing mower and then send the new mower-it made sense and I figured it would take a few weeks. Two days later I came home from work and the replacement mower was right there waiting for me. It took UPS 2 weeks to come and pick up the new mower (not neuton's fault). The new mower was the 5.2 and that was far superior to its predecessor. The battery life is much better. I have almost a half acre of plat property. The backyard is fenced. You can use the lawnmower at any time because it is so quiet. If you mow early in the morning the wet grass clogs up the mower. Usually after 7:30 AM is fine. You need to keep the blades sharp. If the blade is not sharp it does not do as good of a job. Changing the blade is weird but I call neuton whenever I need to change it for the instructions. If the blade is not shapr the grass does not cut evenly (this is standard for a lawn mower). The only bad thing that I can say about it is that the width is too narrow. I have a half acre of land and it takes me an hour to mow. This is one of the best purchases that I made. I do have a back up battery which is not needed. The one battery covers the full yard. I switch the batteries each time I mnow the lawn. Plugging the top of the battery keeps the charge better. This little machine cost me about $400 abnd has been worht every penny. It is a real good machine and I whoe heartedly reccommend it.
so far so good July 4, 2010 L. Lively (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have only used my Neuton CE 5.2 once. It took more assembly than I expected but it was not difficult. The biggest surprise was the weight. I am a 115 pound female. I chose the Neuton over another brand because the other brand was suppose to be twice as heavy. Not possible! I quickly discovered that while the mower was light (plastic) the battery was not. Hence when the battery is in place... Anyway, the cut was clean and comparable to gasoline and corded mowers but quiet? I don't think so. You don't have the start up noise of gasoline but operating noise is still noise. The battery charge lasted longer than the job. Would I buy it again? Probably, just bc I don't like storing gasoline and starting the gas powered mower. And while my lot is not huge, it is too big for a cord.
Not ready for Prime Time June 28, 2010 J. Cuddeback Summary: I bought my mower through a special offer from our electric utility at $270 delivered. In my opinion it is it is not quite worth that amount. At $350 it is way overpriced for what it can do. If you want to do anything more than cut grass slowly, go with a gas mower.
PROS:
Light, no gas, minimal maintenance, starts always, quiet, fairly well constructed.
CONS:
Poorly designed handle, cut is fair at best, mulches poorly, mediocre bagging, bag is small, narrow cut, overpriced, poor battery life.
The Bottom Line:
Buy it if you have small clean yard and the price is less than $[...]. It will work. Do not get the trimmer, a separate one is much more versatile.
Tips:
The battery is pricey from DR [...]. You can find UB12100 deep cycle batteries online that will end up costing about 50-75% what your pay from DR. You need two UB12100 batteries and a screw driver. The savings is about $30-50 depending on what DR is offering. To extend the battery life always have it connected to the charger when not in use. Somewhat defeats the energy savings because of vampire draw on charger.
This mower cuts grass and that is about all. It does cut St. Augustine grass, but with no particular distinction. It does not cut as well as a good gas mower but it will compete with and cheap mower to merely cut grass. It does not mulch well and leaves fairly large pieces of leaves and noticeable grass clippings. If the yard is leaf free, after using the mulch attachment it looks OK. It does not bag the leaves very well and there remains a significant amount of residue. The wheels are not offset enough and the plastic body rather thick preventing close mowing against fences and walls. The hand grip is poorly designed and requires a healthy grip and good size hands to prevent it from constantly turning motor on and off with significant battery drain.
It is light and easy to maneuver even on a slope or over curbs. Since it is electric there are no gas cans, carburetor, no oil changes, no smell in the garage and no problem starting it. It is blessedly quiet. For those features alone it may be worthwhile. However, on the downside for the last three years mine has needed a new battery every year and at $[...]+ from DR you have to weigh the cost of that silence.
